Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES)
Food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES), sometimes referred to as delayed food allergy, is a rare type of allergic reaction to food. FPIES doesn’t typically involve immunoglobulin-E (or IgE), which are the antibodies that trigger classic allergic reaction symptoms, such as hives, swelling, and wheezing. Instead, FPIES is thought to be triggered by cells in the immune system.
