Some middle ground movies to check out, these are a bit more gory but all very disturbing “The Woman” (2011), its sequel “Darlin” (2019) “Raw” (2017) If you’re in the mood for sheer depravity aren’t overly concerned about the quality of the movie both “Trauma” (2017) and “Grotesque” (2011) are horrific watches.

I wouldn't even consider these to be the scariest movies of all time, but they were filled with more than enough dread to keep me on the edge of my seat and I highly recommend you giving them a chance (assuming you haven't seen these): -Haunting of Hill House (the Netflix series). Without question the scariest show I've personally ever watched.

What is the scariest horror movie you have ever watched?
Same. The Descent and final sequence of REC (Spanish version) were the only movies to make me feel actual dread, not just discomfort. I'm a huge horror fan and actively chase those extreme feelings of tension and suspense, but these two made me feel that even after the movies finished.

For me, most "scary" movies are really just moreso suspenseful. The only time I really consider something scary is if it makes me feel a very specific kind of discomfort (not from being disgusting). The Japanese film Pulse from 2001 has a handful of scenes and images that almost make it feel like the movie is actually looking back at me.
