Reinstalling Office doesn’t delete documents stored on you Mac, so I think you can save changes you made, or you can copy contents in other places.

In that case, saving as *.docx (Microsoft Word Document) should fix the issue. On the other hand, if even more options are grayed out, document protection is a more likely explanation, as Doug wrote.
