President Jimmy Carter teaches Sunday School at Maranatha Baptist Church Plains. “Maranatha” is a combination of two Aramaic words meaning, “Lord, Come!” The early Church greeted one another with this phrase in order to instill a sense of peace and hope during a time of persecution. In speaking these words, early followers of Christ were challenged to see the kingdom of God instilled in their congregations and communities. In the late 1970’s, Maranatha Baptist Church was founded with the desire to see the Good News of Christ instilled in the small town of Plains, Georgia.
